Songs from the past
I used to sing. But i cannot seem to remember most of the songs that I have painstakingly took time and effort to learn during my jc days. Maybe the foreign lyrics weren't the best the memories, plus i need the rest of the 7 people to make any sense to the song. Yet, occasionally, as i wander back to my flat in the bitter cold, the lyrics and melodies from Ave Maria and Ziguenerleben appear mysteriously. Memories of those under LT1 days, where we sit on the choir bench and amuse ourselves, plus many others, with our acapella singing. I believe the tj square song still bring much laughter.
But that was then. Many of these choir mates stayed loyal to the choral scene. Some of us just disappear out of it. A few even denied enjoying those days in the first place.
As for me, i always have mixed feelings whenever this topic comes about. Maybe it just hit my soft spot. The last time when i stared into space during the SYC practice, i started off feeling inspired to attend some voice lessons and continue being immerse in this scene. As the minutes ticked by, i gradually realised why i chose to exit the choral scene premetuarely in the first place. To say that it was due to school work was just a plain excuse for the teachers. To say that i grew out of place cos of the political situation then only explained part of the decision. I guess at that time, i have learnt to admit that i was tone deaf and wasn't in any way suitable to be in the group in the first place. They making the mistake to admit me in after the audition should not warrant my stay, despite my self awareness.
So away with choir. Just left with fond memories....My JC days were the best and worst time of my life. And choir was the sole reason. Sad but true. Even till this date, small details still reminded me of the pain. Even the "official" choir website has forgotten my existence. Well, if nothing else, at least the experience I had during choir helped me through my interviews and provided me with great examples for those "give me an example" questions.

Well, as i grow older, hopefully only the fond memories remain. I will probably learn to forget that i once used to sing using the 16 part scores and revert to the fun karaok pop songs instead.
